About The School
Mwomwere School is located in Mwomwere lower village in the Kanjoo sub-location of Kenya. It was started in 2008, gained a provisional registration in June 2011 with a full registration finalised in March of 2015. The school has seven government teachers and three more teachers funded by the Board of Management (the parents). This is a huge financial burden for the already financially struggling families but shows the importance that the parents place on their children’s education.
The school has an enrolment of 512 pupils; 280 girls and 232 boys inclusive of the Junior Secondary students who are 29. The school presently has 6 complete permanent safe classrooms (3 built by the National Government, 2 built by Kenya Wildlife Service and one built by THI). However, like most schools in the area, the learning and teaching environment is very poor and unfavourable. They have dilapidated, unsafe and unhygienic toilets, a small congested staffroom, 5 temporary class structures with limited access to educational resources. The school has a 10,000 litre holding tank that is hardly used due to a lack of water connection into the school. The pupils have to collect water from Mutuntu river which is approximately 600 meters away.

See the photos of these completed projects on our timeline here!
Since we have started the feeding programme, attendance has increased by 20%. Pupils who had previously dropped out are returning to school because, for some children, it is their only daily meal. Staff and pupils are more motivated with improved concentration as their hunger is satisfied.
It costs just £130 per week to feed the whole school, the pupils and the staff, but we cannot do it without your help.
If you would like to donate towards the feeding programme or to any other part of the school’s development, you can do so through our donate button. Thank you.

- Construction of a school kitchen and dining hall
